Mark Christopher Garrett Try this out next time you are at a small gathering, ask the people in the room what their favorite percussion instrument is
No doubt many formidable instruments will be mentioned, from the classic snare drum, to the modern digital drum kit, who knows some one may even mention a rain stick, or cymbals or the low end of a bass drum, one could even argue that cave men used rocks to formulate beats. However it would be rare that any individual you ask would give you this answer, my personal favorite, the pianoforte or more colloquially known around the world as just the piano. That is right those dainty sounding notes everyone hides in the background of their pop/rock/rap/country etc music are made by the most complex percussion instrument ever built. 88 keys pounding 88 hammers against 40,000 pounds or 18 Tons of tensioned metal, all to produce magical invisible vibrational forces. If someone can describe a cooler percussion instrument than that then comment below I would love to hear about it, but as of this writing nothing comes close to the pianoforte as being the greatest percussion instrument ever invented!
